CHARIS opens our 25th season with War & Peace, a concert focused on the music that draws us together as a community of justice. Join us December 15 & 16, 2017 at 8 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum (map).
The program highlights both ancient texts about the importance of compassion and charity and contemporary tunes like Elizabeth Alexander’s “Fighting Over What We Believe,” which exhorts people to engage in the “holy work of listening.” Along the way lighter numbers leave listeners chuckling about the “mini-wars” that always bubble up in our marriages, our families, our homes–especially as the hustle and bustle of the holiday season take over our lives. And yet, in the midst of that holiday turmoil, John Lennon and Yoko Ono ask us the eternal question: what have we done? What have we done to turn from war to peace, from fear to acceptance and understanding.
